The QLS Solicitor Support Pty Ltd (ABN 52 636 103 529) is a wholly owned incorporated legal practice of the Queensland Law Society Incorporated (ABN 33 423 389 441). We operate in conjunction with the QLS Ethics & Practice Centre to provide confidential ethics guidance and practice support to solicitors.
We collect, hold, use and disclose personal information under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (PA) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
Why have I been referred to this notice?
You have been referred to this notice because you have sought guidance from us, you have not elected to remain anonymous, we need to collect some personal information about you to be able to provide you with guidance and it is reasonable for us to refer you to this notice in the circumstances.
What is personal information?
The PA defines what personal information means, but in summary it is any information or an opinion about an individual who is reasonably capable of being identified from that information or opinion. It does not include information which has been de-identified.
What personal information are you collecting about me?
The personal information we collect may include:
- your first and last name
- whether you are a member of the Society
- the name of your firm or employer
- your email address
- your telephone number
- the time of your call
- the reason for your call
- a brief summary of your issue.
If you wish to remain anonymous, some of this information, such as your name, contact details and firm or employer will not be collected, in which case it is unlikely that any personal information will be collected, unless you provide us with personal information about a third party (such as your own client or another solicitor) during a call.
If you consent, your calls may be recorded, and a copy of that recording retained.

To provide you with ethics and practice support and guidance.
What if I don’t provide you with my personal information?
Our guidance may be limited without all relevant information, including your personal information or that of a third party. While the option exists to remain anonymous, you should be aware that in some situations remaining anonymous may also limit our guidance.
Which third parties do you usually disclose personal information to?
We may disclose personal information to:
- other solicitors within our organisation
- Society support staff and contractors who assist us with our work, including IT support, administrative support and research clerks, but only to the extent this is needed
- at your request, a committee of the Society, such as the Ethics Advisory or other Policy Committees or other departments of the Society.
Will you use or disclose my personal information for direct marketing?
No, we do not engage in direct marketing.
Will you disclose my personal information overseas?
No, we do not generally disclose personal information overseas.
