Changing Workplace Culture Series

As part of its Changing Workplace Culture training series, the QLS is offering two bespoke in-house training workshops:

Module 1– Sexual Harassment

Module 2 – Being an Active Bystander.

Depending on the needs of your organisation, you can choose to enrol in either one of these workshops, or the two workshop modules as a package.  

Price:

  • One module only: $550 for QLS members and $740.00 for non-members (maximum 40 per session) plus GST agreed travel costs
  • Two modules: $999 for QLS members and $1350 for non-members plus GST and agreed travel costs

Module 1 - Sexual Harassment Workshop

The Anti-Discrimination and Human Rights Legislation Amendment (Respect at Work) Bill 2022 (the Bill) and amendment to section 47C of the Sex Discrimination Act 1984 (Cth) (the ‘Amendment’) commenced on 13 December 2022. They impose a positive legal duty on employers to take reasonable and proportionate measures to eliminate sex discrimination, including sexual harassment in the workplace. 

In order to satisfy the duty it is recommended employers adopt a number of measures, including regular training and education. 

QLS has developed an Australian-first legal industry educational workshop which helps participants to understand inappropriate conduct, the role of bystanders, workplace culture and the reporting and management of complaints. The workshop helps participants identify what appropriate conduct is and aids in changing behaviours, aiming to foster a positive workplace culture throughout Australia's legal profession. 

Workshop Content

The workshop features recorded scenes set in the workplace, using professional actors to aid in learning and understanding of this serious issue. Designed to challenge what each of us can do to reduce the harm to individuals, organisations and the profession as a result of sexual harassment.

  • A 60 minute, 1 CPD point workshop
  • Suitable for all staff working in a legal environment
  • Highly interactive
  • Delivered by specialist senior trained facilitators 
  • Run at the QLS, online or in-house at your firm for groups of up to 40 for your convenience (subject to facilitators availability)

Learning Objectives

At the completion of the workshop participants will have the knowledge and understanding of substantive content dealing with:

  • what constitutes sexual harassment; 
  • the statistics and surveys providing data on the incidence, reporting rates and the implications for individuals and the legal profession of sexual harassment; 
  • how individuals behaviours impact workplace culture; 
  • the predominant traits and culture in legal workplaces that may act as catalysts for harassment and bullying behaviours; 
  • the role of bystanders in changing culture and the practical application of using the 6Ds in responding as an Active Bystander; 
  • the role of leadership in modelling positive behaviour in legal workplaces; 
  • the importance of appropriate sexual harassment and bullying policies and training processes in legal workplaces; 
  • the options and appropriate responses to manage an incident experienced or observed; and 
  • the options available for further and ongoing support for those dealing with incidents of sexual harassment or bullying.

Module 2 – Being An Active Bystander

Inappropriate behaviour in the workplace usually fits into three areas: discrimination, sexual harassment, and workplace bullying.  In response to recent legislative changes and the Introduction of the Code of Practice “Managing the risk of psychosocial hazards at work” on 1 April 2023, QLS has developed a scenario based workshop to support people to develop the behaviours of an Active Bystander, to encourage people to call out inappropriate behaviour in a constructive and safe way. 

Workshop Content

The workshop features recorded scenes set in the workplace, using professional actors to aid in learning and understanding what bullying, harassment and discrimination look like in different contexts and help them develop intervention behaviours to address these behaviours in a constructive and safe way.

  • A 60 minute, 1 CPD point workshop
  • Suitable for all staff working in a legal environment
  • Highly interactive
  • Delivered by specialist senior trained facilitators 
  • Run at the QLS, online or in-house at your firm for groups of up to 40 for your convenience (subject to facilitators availability)

Learning Objectives

At the completion of the workshop participants will have:

  • Sharpened awareness to recognise inappropriate behaviours of bullying, sexual harassment and discrimination in the workplace
  • An understanding of the factors affecting the  decision to intervene and  respond appropriately to inappropriate behaviours 
  • Active Bystander tools to turn passive observation into action resulting in positive behavioural change.

  • You will be invoiced within 7 days of the delivery of the workshop
  • In the event that you cancel the workshops and no further dates can be agreed upon or rescheduled, you will be liable to pay a 50% cancellation fee
