Module 1 – Mental Health and Wellbeing for Lawyers
Workshop Content
This one-hour session provides an overview of mental health and wellbeing for lawyers. The workshop outlines how to recognise signs and symptoms of when people may be struggling with a mental health and wellbeing issue and actions to take.
The workshop will also provide an overview of the current state of mental health and wellbeing in the legal profession and discuss why those in the legal profession are susceptible to certain mental health issues.

Learning Objectives
At the completion of the workshop participants will have the knowledge and understanding of substantive content dealing with:
- the building blocks of a mentally healthy behaviours
- recognising when people may be struggling with a mental health issue and what actions to take
- the statistics and status of the incidence of mental health and wellbeing issues in the legal profession
- how early interventions can help prevent adverse mental health and wellbeing issues emerging
- the predominant traits and culture in legal workplaces that may act as catalysts for developing poor mental health and wellbeing
- the role of leadership in modelling positive behaviour in legal workplaces and reducing the stigma surrounding mental health and wellbeing issues
- the options available for further and ongoing support for those dealing with mental health and wellbeing issues

Module 2 – Identifying and Managing Burnout
Workshop Content
This one-hour session provides an overview of burnout and its impact on professionals. When chronic stress builds up and isn’t managed, it can lead to burnout which has adverse consequences for both individuals and workplaces alike. Burnout negatively affects performance and productivity in the workplace, working and personal relationships and a person’s overall physical and mental health and wellbeing.
It is important professionals and workplaces are proactive about wellbeing and seek support before stress results in burnout.

Learning Objectives

- An understanding of the concept of burnout and the predictors for it emerging
- How to identify early warning signs, both physical and work
- Distinguishing the difference between stress and burnout
- The four stages of burnout and how to intervene for each of these
- Strategies the support and manage occupational and individual burnout
- How to create positive work cultures that support balance between work and individual demands to avoid burnout developing
- When people feel inspired and motivated, they do more work – and that work is significantly less stressful on their overall health and wellbeing
- Know your and your colleagues limitations, as well as opportunities, and to learn to better regulate life and take care of ourselves

Module 3 – Unconscious Bias
Workshop Content
This one-hour session provides an overview of common biases that can play out in workplaces which can result in inequities and discrimination. The workshop will demonstrate how we can learn to be more conscious, thoughtful and deliberate in our thinking and actions.
Being more mindful of what we are about to say or about a decision we need to make, can lead to a more inclusive, productive and positive work place cultures.

Learning Objectives
At the completion of the workshop participants will have the knowledge and understanding of substantive content dealing with:
- An understanding of the concept of unconscious bias and this is displayed through stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination
- The two distinct types of thinking that exist, System 1 (fast and automatic) and System 2 (slow and controlled) and examples of how these occur and impact people in workplaces
- Identify the common types of bias, including confirmation bias, halo or horns effect, affinity bias, in-group and out-group bias
- Identify the micro-behaviours lead to inequities and discrimination
- Strategies to use to reverse the habit of unconscious bias
- How to become an active bystander in identifying problematic behaviour and decisions caused by bias

Module 4 – The Resilient Lawyer
Workshop Content
This half hour session provides an overview of why resilience matters and mental and behavioural strategies to promote positive habits. Having resilience is important for our wellbeing and happiness and being able to deal with life’s challenges effectively. Resilience is about strengthening future performance and living your life to its full potential rather than just coping and bouncing back.
The workshop will identify strategies to create new habits that will support building resilience in professionals to ensure they are better equipped next time unforeseen challenging situations arise.

- Strategies to maintain performance in the face of adversity
- The relationship between resilience and wellbeing
- Mental strategies can enhance resilience, including a growth mindset, learned optimism
- Behavioural strategies on how to stay well and resilient including connections, giving, and physical activity, being aware, engaging in life-long learning detachment from work
- How to create positive habits

- In the event that you cancel the workshops and no further dates can be agreed upon or rescheduled, you will be liable to pay a 50% cancellation fee
